Clerk& is built by Leeside Labs Limited, an Irish company building a careful clerk, with matter content kept in the EEA, for the barristers, clerks, and small firms that the legal tech industry has spent twenty years ignoring.
Our mission
Building a better legal practice. Clerk& gives barristers back the hours that paperwork steals, so the work that needs their judgment gets it.
What is Clerk&?
Clerk& is speech-to-document software for barristers, barristers' clerks, solicitors, and legal secretaries. It transcribes, tidies and formats what the user says into a finished, filed legal document (a fee note, brief, attendance note, or letter) in the user's own style, ready for review in moments. Built for the Irish bar by Leeside Labs Limited; all matter content is processed and stored in the EU and never used to train AI models.
The story
The founders spent years watching the same evening repeat itself across the Irish bar. Counsel finishes court at five. The fee notes are still being drafted at nine. The attendance note from a Tuesday consult is finally written on Friday, from memory. The administrative tail of a working practice is always one day behind.
The existing tools either expect a hundred-counsel firm with an IT budget, or are general productivity software that knows nothing about Irish legal work. Neither helps the sole-practitioner barrister at the Law Library, and neither helps the senior clerk on a Wednesday at half past nine.
Clerk& is the tool we wanted: opinionated about the work of barristers and clerks, equally at home with a sole practitioner or a busy room, and architected so that privileged material is stored and processed in EU regions.
The team
James Harnedy — software engineer, Cork. Thirty years of software, including VP Engineering at AI procurement platform Keelvar and leadership roles at Johnson Controls and Gibson Innovations. Builds the product.
Cindy Zoons— legal assistant to barristers, Cork. Brings the on-the-ground perspective on documentation, fees, and the rhythms of a working clerk's room. Shapes the product.
The company
Clerk& is a product of Leeside Labs Limited, an Irish limited company named for the River Lee in Cork. Registered in Ireland. Tax-resident in Ireland. EU-region processing for all matter content. We don't have an American parent, and we don't intend to acquire one.

What we build by
A clerk, not a chat box
Clerk& is opinionated about the work of the Irish bar — fees, briefs, attendance notes, correspondence — and tuned for Irish legal vocabulary, citations, and each practice's own style. It is not a wrapper around a chat box.
Both sides of the desk
Barristers speak; clerks review and dispatch. Clerk& is designed for both halves of that handoff, not for one role at the expense of the other.
Privacy as architecture
Matter content is stored and processed in EU regions, with 2021 Standard Contractual Clauses for any onward transfer. We do not use your work to train AI models. The full processor list and CLOUD Act analysis is in our privacy policy.
Local first
Built in Ireland for Irish and UK legal practice. Irish case names, neutral citations, Law Library conventions, Law Society conventions. Not a US tool with a Dublin sticker.
