Starting out at the Bar

The first years are the leanest.
The paperwork isn’t.

A devil has no clerk. Neither does most of the Law Library in year one, year two, and often year three — so the fee notes, the attendance notes and the chasing land on the same desk as the work itself, at precisely the point in a career when there is least of both time and money.

That’s the wrong time to be priced out of the thing that gives the evening back. So we don’t charge the standard rate for it.

Email us and say when you were called. That is the entire process — no form, no proof of income, no call with anybody.

The maths

Hours back in the week.

Forget the per-seat price for a moment. The number that matters is the time between a barrister speaking and a clerk dispatching the finished document.

FAQ

Pricing questions

Is there really a free trial?
Yes. 14 days, no credit card. You can run a real week of practice work through it — fee notes, briefs, attendance notes, the lot.
I've just been called. Is there a reduced rate?
Yes. Your devilling year is free, and the first 3 years after call are €36 a month instead of €69 (both plus VAT). Email hello@clerkand.com and tell us the year you were called — that's all we need. No form, no proof of income, no sales call. When the rate is due to change we email you a month beforehand. The same applies if you're in your first job in a clerk's room.
What's the early-adopter price?
Early adopters pay €69/user/month + VAT and keep that rate for the life of their subscription — even after the standard price rises to €99. Prefer to commit for the year? €690/user/year + VAT is two months free. All prices exclude VAT, which is added where applicable.
How much is 10 hours of dictation, really?
More than the busiest barrister or senior clerk uses. 10 hours of dictation at natural speaking pace yields well over 100 documents — fee notes, briefs, attendance notes, and correspondence.
Can I cancel anytime?
Month-to-month. Cancel from settings. No exit fees, no clawback. You keep access until the end of your billing period.
Do you offer practice-wide pricing?
For practices or firms with three or more users, we'll set up a single workspace and a single bill. Email hello@clerkand.com and we'll be back to you the same working day.
Why isn't there a free tier?
Because we want you to actually use the product. A free tier with limits would mean you'd test it on the easy stuff. The trial lets you run it on a real week of work — that's the only fair benchmark.
Where is my data stored?
Dublin (Ireland) for application, database, and files. The EU for all AI processing, on Google Vertex AI — transcription, drafting, classification and vision in Belgium (Gemini, co-located with the audio bucket), document formatting on Vertex AI's EU multi-region endpoint (Claude). Frankfurt (Germany) for opt-in analytics. Standard Contractual Clauses for any onward transfer. The full processor list is in our privacy policy.
